Testing the fence:

Push the brass end easily into the ground.

This simulates a short circuit on the fence,

(as if cattle touches the fence).

Testing the electric fence charger:

Push the hook of the fence tester

and the brass end  directly on the output

of the electric fence charger,

(the polarity is not important in this case).
